Learn & Reflect (NL)

Changing perspectives. Conversations about science (communication) in today’s world.

I.c.w. Athena Instituut VU

In these workshops, scientists reflected on their own role in the changing relations between science and society.

Science communication as transmission and dialogue

(Thursday, April 14th 2022 | 13:00 – 16:00 | ANNE, Utrecht)

In times of digitalisation, polarisation & misinformation, science casts itself as a reliable institution for providing facts and as a fact checker of the public debate. In doing so, scientists write blogs, participate in public appearances and organise education in such a way that it is accessible to all. In this session, we will try to answer what cultural and structural barriers are to communicating science, and what changes are needed to (continue to) do so in a meaningful way.

Science communication as participation and co-creation

(Friday, April 22nd 2022 | 10:00 – 13:00 | ANNE, Utrecht)

Involving public groups in the process and decision-making around science in the form of patient participation and citizen science projects is a growing part of science communication. In this session, we will discuss how best to shape participation and co-creation in scientific research, and what structural and cultural factors encourage or hinder these forms of science communication.
