Finding your way around current social and political issues is sometimes pretty difficult. “A Bit of Red Meat” (StukRoodVlees – a reference to a remark by the Dutch Prime Minister about such issues) is a blog that links political science and other social science research to current affairs. Since 2013, it has been an important source of information for many ordinary people, journalists, politicians, and policymakers. In the past eight years, more than 1300 items have been uploaded and dozens of researchers have found a place to share their work with a wide audience. Since 2017, there has also been a podcast with the same name.

The blog is maintained by seven researchers from three different universities. They edit the incoming documents, produce the podcasts, and maintain the website and social media. The aim is to bring current political science research to the attention of a wider audience, provide greater depth and evidence in public debate, and make academic research more readily understandable for the general public. It sometimes takes months or even years before peer-reviewed articles are published, whereas current events move much faster…

The grant from the Rewarded! Fund will be used to finance assistance for producing and maintaining the blog, thus guaranteeing the continuity and professionalism of the platform.
